Rock Jewellery

29-07-2010 10:41 # add your comment

Rock jewellery, by New Zealand's Rob Upritchard, is being launched by B Store and will be available from the 4th of August 2010.

Robert Upritchard (b.1973) works with Granite and Greywacke rock to form simple graphic jewelries and is based in New Zealand. Although originally carving large sculptures in stone he quickly refined his practice to small wearable forms.

This exhibition at B Store will be new work with a climbing and alpine outdoor theme. Ice and pick axes, shovels and constellation amulets all carved from solid pieces of dense stone are scaled down to create exquisite sculptural pieces which hang from nylon cord or simple silver chain. The rings made directly by hollowing out a simple pebble. The pieces will be displayed on bespoke furniture designed by Martino Gamper and Francis Upritchard.

The wearable pieces, carved from granite rock, are heavy in the hand,  solid around the neck.  Manly things; pickaxes, shovels and iceaxe heads. Hung on bold, colourful ropes or simple black strings the pieces are casually heavy, but with the delicate charm of a precious item. The rocks have been selected by Robert during massive hikes through  New Zealand's beaches, forests and river beds. They are days in the making and speak of heavy landscapes and mountains.

The accompanying zine, featuring an interview between Rob Upritchard and Karl Fritsch and published by Dent de Leone can be purchased during the exhibition for £3 each. They will also be available from dentdeleone.co.nz from August 2010

IN HOUSE exhibition

IN HOUSE is a collaborative exhibition between London based furniture designer Dean Edmonds and artist Jack Gregory. IN HOUSE brings together a shared aesthetic and understanding between their respective works.

Gregory's monotone series of pencil drawings deal with the repetition and detail within a single, sculptural form, these works are accompanied by Edmonds' series of seating using minimal materials and features to reduce the pieces to their uniformed basic function.

Along with the main body of the exhibition animaged based journal ofthe same name has been produced continuing the themes of the exhibition.

b Store pop-up store at The Shop at Bluebird

What do you get when two of London’s best fashion shops collaborate? An even better store of course. The Shop at Bluebird on Kings Road plus a stylish B Store Pop-Up Shop equals maximum impact on the capital’s shoppers. The result is an exciting retail space, created in collaboration with the London-based, multi-disciplinary architectural and interiors design bureau Post-Office.
Innovative shelving and light systems work hard to assist the sale of B store clothes and shoes. Not that much help is needed. Since its incarnation in 2001, B founders Matthew Murphy and Kirk Beattie have not only introduced countless new designers onto the market, but also of late, impressed with their own designs.
One unique feature of the Pop Up shop is the industrial fans activated by customers upon entering the , causing a ‘Spring Breeze’ to blow through the shop. Post-Office is a relatively new constellation (launched in 2009) and specialises “in mixing industrial materials with an artful sensibility to create clean, utilitarian yet often surprising spaces”. Consisting of Philippe Malouin and Sacha Leong, the pair have, between them, worked with Tom Dixon, Volkswagen, Wallpaper Magazine and Studio Too Good, to mention but a few.

The B Store Pop Up Shop is at The Shop at Bluebird from March 18 – April 18, 2010
350 Kings Road, London SW3 UU, 020 7351 3873

NO SHOW

01-03-2010 12:53 # 2 comments - add your comment
he b Store on Saville Row hosts the launch of the book “NO SHOW” “by C.S. Leigh,
in his absence”, a collaboration between photographer Laurence Ellis and LBN Design.
The launch also features a Horse by Tony Hornecker and a specially commissioned fading print of A J Abualrub for the b Store facade.
The Book
On Thursday the 27th of July 2008 a young photographer named Laurence Ellis received an unsolicited email requesting him to shoot a menswear story. The photo story was to be shot in Paris and exhibited at Frieze, with clothes designed exclusively by Lanvin and sponsorship from LVMH. The sender signed off as C.S. Leigh.
Incessant, erratic and strangely infectious, Laurence unintentionally catalogued C.S. Leigh’s daily correspondence over the course of the year as they planned the shoot. As the shoot date neared it became apparent that all was not quite as it seemed, but none the less, the model that CS Leigh pursued arrived in Paris for the shoot - AJ Abualrub. And so did C.S. Leigh.
This is a book about the show that never happened, and the strange year that proceeded it.
Since the early eighties C.S. Leigh seems to have lived through various incarnations as a fashion designer, art curator and film director, leaving behind a trail of mystery so foggy no-one seems to be able to really explain what it is he does, or how he does it. What we do know is that he is the main protagonist of this book, a keen writer of emails and he has once again, disappeared.
The book contains a full year of unabridged email correspondence between C.S. Leigh and Laurence Ellis, it also contains the photographs. AJ Abualrub in Paris, by C.S. Leigh and Laurence Ellis.
